St Nicholas Day. One of those great feast days which are sadly completely ignored in these parts, as folk stubbornly refuse to hand out presents to one another for the eminently sensible reason that the Christmas shopping rush would have to begin three weeks earlier, so presumably sometime in late August.
A half day at work today, giving me a chance to browse the local Christmas markets. I seem to have been visiting the markets for weeks already, somehow never tiring of seeing endless stalls of both traditional and sometimes quite peculiar gifts, decorations and foodstuffs. Clearly, the biggest draw for me is the exotic edible delicacies, ranging from currywurst to tartiflette and Yorkshire Pudding wraps. The glühwein can't really compete.
