Thirteen

– You survived the office party, then?
– Barely. I find these events traumatic at the best of times.
– And this one was worse?
– There was a Murder Mystery entertainment.
– Excellent! Did you get murdered? Or were you doing the murdering?
– We were merely sleuthing. But it was all quite convoluted.
– Murders usually are. Typically because the murderer wishes to remain undiscovered.
– Exactly. There is always so much subterfuge. Not to mention red herrings thrown liberally around. And shifty characters who seem far from trustworthy. Why can't people just be open and honest about these things?
– I suppose it is a sad reflection on our times. But on the other hand it wouldn't be much of a mystery.
